PROGRAM SUMMARY
PACE BUSINESS promotes the growth and economic expansion of diverse Southern Californian communities through the infusion of capital and the provision of business consultation services and financial literacy training. PACE targets low- and moderate-income residents, entrepreneurs and business owners with diverse loan products as well as technical assistance focused on financial education and credit building. PACE Business provides no-cost advising services and low-cost educational programs to entrepreneurs looking to start or grow their small business. PACE business advisors work with entrepreneurs in one-to-one sessions in the areas of management, marketing, sales, finance, accounting, and other disciplines required for small business growth, expansion, and innovation. http://pacelabdc.org/
POSITION SUMMARY
PACE is seeking a highly skilled and motivated BUSINESS and LOAN COUNSELOR II who will carry out the day-to-day program activities for meeting and exceeding program performance outcomes & requirements. The individual will collaborate with other business counselors, loan/credit counselors, program assistants, interns, and volunteers. When directed, the Business Counselor will act as the representative of PACE in cultivating and maintaining collaborative working relationships with all partners, key stakeholders, and other community partners. I. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES
Relationship Management & Stakeholder Engagement
- Build and maintain constructive relationships with funders and key community stakeholders
- Actively engage and collaborate with staff of PACE BDC, community partners, consultants and other PACE departments, consultants, speakers, interns, and volunteers
- Collaborate and coordinate with other PACE Business teams when there are other opportunities for client referrals and / or cross-teaming
Program Implementation:
- Outreach and Recruitment:
- Direct outreach, via strategic partners, attending events, conducting workshops to recruit business owners and entrepreneurs
- Identify, establish, and maintain community partnerships to increase outreach and recruitment
- Training & Technical Assistance:
- Update and create training curriculums as needed by the Department
- Conduct entrepreneur, microenterprise, and other business-related workshops; evaluate and enhance workshops as needed
- Provide clients direct counseling, one-on-one mentoring, loan packaging, access to contracts, refer to credit / loan counselor
- Assist clients apply for DBA, EIN, sellers’ permit, business license, and any other required license/permits.
- Conduct regular business assessments using successful screening tool
- Collect clients’ facts and documents to complete business enrollment
- Loan and Loan Packaging:
- Create and distribute materials to help market the Microloan programs
- Provide assessment of micro/small business loan needs
- Keep informed about PACE Finance Corporation loan products and other lending partners’ products and assist clients with loan preparation and submitting complete applications
- Refer potential loan clients to loan counselors
- Reporting:
- Aggregate, monitor, and track data of clients enrolled; analyze and synthesize client data for business development and reporting purposes
- Conduct regular reporting on key metrics, KPIs, and status reports, as required by internal management, funders, grantors, and other key stakeholders
- Coordinate with internal and external auditors for reviews
Business Development:
- Help in developing proposals in response to funding opportunities for PACE Business
II. EDUCATION, EXPERIENCES AND SKILLS
Education and Experience
- At least two years of work experience in providing technical assistance and training to start-up entrepreneurs, small businesses and/or microenterprises
- Bachelor's degree in business administration, finance, and marketing and other related field preferred and/or minimum of three years of working experience in business development
- Experience in overseeing and / or managing government contracts, highly desirable
- Experience in small business-related events, workshops, and training, highly desirable
- Experience in family business or self-owned business desirable
- Experience in underwriting loans or loan packaging desirable
Skills and Abilities
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with staff, building and stewarding an organizational culture that embraces inclusion
- Have excellent communication skills – both written and spoken; ability to communicate and deliver clear, concise, effective manner for internal and external stakeholders

- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Social Media and On-line Marketing
- Experience working with database and client relation management (CRM) software / system, especially Salesforce
- Bi-lingual language skills preferred but not required
III. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Must have a valid Driver’s License, adequate automobile insurance coverage and an automobile in working condition; local travel may be required.
- Must satisfactorily pass background and employment/reference check
- COVID vaccination required; must have two-dose series of Pfizer or Moderna or a single-dose of Johnson & Johnson. Those that need a medical or religious exemption must reach out separately.

- Pay range is $80,000 to $100,000 annual depending on experience
