Mental Health Consultant

PACE is a community development organization that creates economic solutions to meet the challenges of empowerment, education, housing, environment, and business development in the Pacific Asian and other diverse communities. Bilingual in Spanish Required.

Introduction

PACE Education provides high quality early childhood education and support services for children aged 0-5 and economically disadvantaged families. In addition to early childhood education, the program also provides health, nutrition, mental health, and parent empowerment/involvement services. This program is funded by the Los Angeles County Office of Education (LACOE) and operated under Head Start and California Community Care Licensing guidelines and regulations.

PACE Education currently operates 15 pre-school centers serving 564, 3-5 years old children each year in the metro Los Angeles and South Bay area and 270 children ages 0- 3/pregnant women are served through our Early Head Start program.

PACE Education is seeking a qualified Bilingual (English/Spanish) Mental Health Consultants to support our Head Start and Early Head Start programs at least 10 hours/week.

Qualifications

The Mental Health Consultant provides direct clinical intervention(s) to child and families. Must be an independently licensed clinician with the California Board of Behavioral Sciences and have the expertise in child and family mental health.

Acceptable licenses include, but are not limited to:

Licensed Clinical Psychologist

Licensed Clinical Social Worker

Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist

Licensed Professional Counselor

Licensed School Social Worker

Licensed School Psychologist

Nurse Practitioner

Child Psychiatrist

Services

Under the guidance of the Mental Health Coordinator, the Mental Health Consultant is responsible for key Head Start/Early Head Start roles and responsibilities such as, but not limited to: classroom and home-based observations, clinical assessments, developing intervention plans, and supporting classroom teachers/home visitors. In addition, the Mental Health Consultant will assume responsibility for supporting Head Start/Early Head Start with any other related activities with regard to Head Start Program Performance Standards, LACOE GIMs, and PACE Education Mental Health Policies and Procedures.

Duties

  • Complete all activities and paperwork associated with LACOE required mental health assessments, home visits, parent/teacher consults and classroom observations.
  • Provide monthly on-site consultation and/or reflective supervision with families and staff as needed.
  • Design and implement program practices in response to identified behavioral and mental health issues.
  • Provide group, individual staff, and parent education trainings on mental health related issues.
  • Assist in providing special help for children with atypical behavior or development.
  • Assist in accessing and utilizing community mental health services.
  • Work in collaboration with other Head Start and Early Head Start service areas to refer children for diagnostic examination to confirm that emotional or behavior problems do not have a physical basis.
  • Participate in agency Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) meetings as requested.
  • Advise and assist in developmental screening and assessment of children and pregnant mothers.
  • Provide Training and Technical Assistance for staff and parents on mental health related topics.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must pass the following background checks prior to start of employment through LiveScan screening (costs not covered by PACE):
    • Sex Offender Registry
    • Child Abuse and Neglect State Registry
    • State or Tribal Criminal History Check, including fingerprints
    • FBI Criminal History Check, including fingerprints
  • Must have verification of T.B. clearance prior to contract initiation, to be renewed every four (4) years (every 4 years for chest x-rays).?
  • Must pass health screening (LIC 503) prior to contract initiation, health screening is accepted within one year prior to contract, to be renewed every four (4) years.?
  • Provide proof of the following immunizations as required: Measles, Pertussis (Whooping Cough), Influenza, and COVID-19.???
  • Must complete annual professional development in alignment with license requirements and submit documentation annually.
