Weatherization Installer for Nonprofit

Department: EES - Energy & Environmental Service Dept
Location: Los Angeles, CA

Compensation: $22.00 to $29.00 per hour depending on experience/certifications plus excellent benefits

I. PROGRAM SUMMARY:

PACE is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Full-time Weatherization Installer to join the Energy Environmental Services Department and team! This is a wonderful opportunity for an individual looking to start or advance their career in a well-established organization and to also make an impact in the community. PACE Energy and Environmental Services provides Home Energy Assistance, Weatherization and other services to low-income residents of the greater Los Angeles area. These programs provide utility bill assistance and install measures to help improve the energy efficiency, safety and comfort of eligible homeowners or renters. The new employee will be hired under a contract between PACE and the State of California Department of Community Services and Development (CSD) to implement programs of Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), the Department of Energy (DOE) Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) and other PACE energy efficiency State/Federal/IOU Programs https://pacela.org/our-work/energy/

II. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:

Under the guidance of the Crew Leader, the Weatherization Installer hired shall perform the following duties:

  • Perform minor home repairs, install energy efficiency measures, install new appliances and assist in disposing of old appliances;
  • Read, understand and implement instructions correctly;
  • Learn to operate diagnostic equipment like Duct Blaster and Blower Door;
  • Conduct Post Combustion Appliances Safety Test activities, as needed;
  • Accurately complete and submit daily work activity reports (timesheets) to track actual working hours and
  • Review daily work orders, REM Energy Audit installation measures and plan and execute appropriate installation work schedule;
  • Comply with and practice safety procedures and guidelines in accordance with PACE and Cal OSHA safety standards and guidelines;
  • Effectively communicate with supervisors, co-workers and clients concerning work schedule, issues and program information;
  • Attend required training and workshops as required;
  • Assist with the inventory of materials, supplies, tools and equipment on a daily basis;
  • Work after hours and on weekend assignments, as needed;
  • Perform minor installation of Heating Ventilation Air Cooling (HVAC) related work;
  • Carry out outreach activities such as deliver postcards, deliver and pick up of applications;
  • Complete other related duties that may be assigned from time to time. There is a possibility that these duties may become a permanent part of the job.

III. QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCES AND SKILLS:

  • Minimum High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • At least one (1) year hands-on experience in construction and/or weatherization work, preferred;
  • Computer literate and has at least basic knowledge of Microsoft Office programs;
  • Must attend and pass required online and field training courses;
  • Lift and/or push up to 250 pounds with appropriate equipment provided;
  • Must be able to work in confined spaces and in high temperature conditions;
  • Must be physically fit to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) when performing work functions as required by the program;
  • Basic Weatherization, CAS (Combustion Appliance Safety), Blower Door and Duct Blaster Training Certificates, a plus;
  • Experience installing solar thermal and/or solar photovoltaic panels, a plus;
  • Able to complete daily reports in a timely manner, using analytical and mathematical calculations;
  • Able to work independently and/or as part of a team.

IV. PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, work in confined space, use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, climb, push, pull, stand on uneven surfaces, bend, twist or crawl. The employee is regularly required to stand and walk. The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 250 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision and ability to adjust focus.


V. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must pass employment/professional background and reference verification and a pre-employment physical examination that includes drug and alcohol testing.
  • Must pass respiratory screening exam, which is renewed annually
  • Must have a current and valid California Driver’s License, access to reliable transportation and adequate automobile insurance coverage for the duration of employment with PACE.
  • Must be able to pass State of CA DMV’s Motor Vehicle Report without any issues/concerns in order to be added as an authorized driver of PACE vehicles and be added in PACE’s vehicle insurance policy.
  • COVID vaccination required; must have two-dose series of Pfizer or Moderna or a single-dose of Johnson & Johnson. Those that need a medical or religious exemption must reach out separately.
